UPDATES FOR GRADES 3-6 ONLY
This is only for grades 3-6. Grades K-2 will begin next week as previously planned. Watch for anyone date this week for that level.
Good evening football family! What a great last couple of days. It is so great to see all the kiddos back out on the fields. Let’s hope for good news from MPA tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can continue with tackle. If we can’t continue with tackle, we will move to flag for all grade levels. If we do have to switch to flag, we will still need players to get gear as they will be issued helmets for the season. Flag equipment would consist of a helmet, jersey, and flags that would be provided by the program. We would still like the players to wear cleats and football pants.
I wanted to say thank you to all you parents. Without all of you the program would not be a success. Thank you for wanting your kids to get back to some type of normalcy, whatever that maybe these days! We have nothing but the best interest for all the kids at heart as well as keeping them as safe as possible. All the coaches have been given safe, sanitizing items to wipe the footballs down with as well as the tackling bags. We also have bottles of hand sanitizer at all practices and games for the kids. If you could just help the coaches, as they have enough they are trying to do, by telling your kiddo to grab a squirt during their water breaks that would be great. I am sure the Coaches would appreciate the help in this area. If you ever have a concern about anything please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know. We try very hard to make sure the seasons go smoothly and are a great memory for the kiddos. Once again we thank you for all your patience as we navigate this new journey together.
I wanted to end by just giving a reminder that all levels(Grades 3-6) have practice tomorrow night 5:30-7-7:30ish at Messalonskee Middle School. On Saturday September 12th we will issue equipment to the kids. Grades 5/6 will start at 10am and Grade 3/4 will start at 11am. We will be asking for only the kids to go upstairs to get the gear so we can try to limit the amount of people in one small space. Please remember to social distance while at the shed. We will have cones set up that each family/child should stand at and wait to be called over to get gear.

2020 SEASON UPDATE 9/7

ALL GRADES 3-6 PRACTICES WILL BE AT MESSALONSKEE MIDDLE SCHOOL THIS WEEK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE ARE ASKING FOR ONLY 1 PARENT TO ATTEND THE PRACTICES AND PLEASE SOCIAL DISTANCE. PRACTICES BEGIN TOMORROW 5:30PM AS SCHEDULED. PLAYERS WILL NEED SHORTS, CLEATS AND WATER BOTTLE.
2020 Season
Hello MYFA families! We are moving forward with plans to begin the 2020 season. We plan to offer all levels of football as we always do grades K-6! We plan to have tackle for all levels grades 1-6, unless something changes. If we are unable to go with tackle we will still do flag season for all levels if necessary. Basically if the high school is unable to do football this year, we will most likely need to go to flag to adhere to community guidelines. If this happens, you will be notified and we will make any changes necessary to continue the season.
This season will be shorter as we are starting later due to all area leagues waiting on guidance. Below is a tentative outline for all grades for the season. The honest truth is that this season has so many factors and unknowns that we may need to make changes and adjust on the fly. We apologize ahead of time for when this happens. We will try to have excellent communication using Facebook, website and emails (once everyone is registered). If the season is suspended or canceled due to unforeseen circumstances THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS. This is because the program has already purchased insurance for the year, equipment has been reconditioned, purchased etc.
Online registration will begin tomorrow Tuesday September 1st. There will be no changes in registration cost. Please register here on the website. Payment is expected at time of registration. There will be certain protocols around mask wearing, social distancing, attendance to games and practices, monitoring of temperature etc. When we know more, we will communicate this as it is still undecided at the State/Community level and we are waiting on guidance.
Parents of players will need to sign a waiver in person before the child practices. The waiver will be around Covid-19 liability, agreement to follow any restrictions/protocol the program or league put in place around practices and games as well as acknowledging the no refund policy this season. At this time we also do not know how many teams we will have at each level. Hopefully nothing will change, but if we have a lack of registrations/players we may only have one team per level. This will be determined after the first week of practices.
We will give more information and updates on scheduling, but here is what we know so far:
Grade 5/6:
Practices start after labor day weekend on the High School Practice field Tuesday 9/8/20, Wednesday 9/9/20 and Thursday 9/10/20 all 5:30pm-7:30pm. After that, coaches will be making their own schedules.
Grade 5/6 equipment issue Saturday 9/12/20 10am at equipment shed 6 oak street behind fire station.
6 total game this season and 1st game will be 9/27/20 with last game being Sunday 11/1/2020 (full schedule TBD)
Grade 3/4:

2020 Season Update: COVID Status
Update on 2020 season grade 3-6: the Kennebec Valley Youth Football league met this week. We are planning a tackle season for grade 3-6. If high school football is canceled we will be doing a flag season. The first day of football will be Tuesday September 8th. More details will be provided in the coming weeks. We still need permission to use facilities etc. We will let everyone know when online registration is open. No decision has been made around K-2 football but will be made soon. Please share! Grades K-2 Final Registration
Final registration and equipment pick up will be held on Sunday September 8th from 10-11 at the MYFA equipment shed located at 6 Oak Street.
Flag kids will just need to registration on this day. If you already registered online then no need to come on Sunday. Once all kids are registered you will receive an email from the Coach about when the first meeting is.
Grades 1/2 kids all need to be present to receive the equipment. Once all kids are registered you will receive an email from your Coach about practices times.
